Rinn is a queer artist who elevates social justice, body positive, body autonomy, LGBTQIA+, and breaks down gender constructs in their work with word play and sass.
Rinn Boettcher of Cheeky Ceramics grew up in Appleton Wisconsin always finding different ways to create. They went to Stevens Point for their Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in Painting and Print making Their work was mainly based on the female form and expressing its movements and curvature through color and texture at a large scale. After completing her degree, they moved back to Appleton continuing to paint and explore mixed medias such as house paint, spray paint, wood surfaces, and collage.
Rinn was The Studio Manager at The Fire Art Studio a DIY shop where you can paint pottery, fuse glass, or create a mosaic. It is here that they discovered her love of painting pottery, working with different painting techniques and tools, and bringing their drawings to a new type of surface, and a functional surface! Rinn uses vibrant colors and patterns to bring their portraits to life. They've always up for sassy sayings, coffee references, and really has never met a pun they didn't like. They also use a series of silk screens in some of their work.
Rinn's funky functional ceramic pieces can be found in local shops Farrey Studio & Gifts (Appleton Wi) Blue Moon Emporium (Appleton Wi) Cedar Harbor (Appleton Wi) Jack Richeson & Co (Kimberly WI) and KEPS (Sparta Wi)
They also participate in local events such as Art at the Park (was awarded Honorable Mention in 2017) and local Pride events.
Rinn also takes custom orders of any of their pieces. Their specialty being pet portraits. Basically, all it takes to get started is sending a picture of your pet or person and letting her know what sort of ceramic piece you'd like them painted on.
